A Passover Blessing (April 2008) PDF Print E-mail

Passover is all about leaving Egypt – that place of enslavement - and going to a place of freedom.

Notice that when the Jews left they were in the "not-knowing place". Primarily because the generation leaving Egypt was a generation born into captivity one that had never known anything but enslavement, and here they were leaving to the unknown… trusting that voice that told them to move ahead.

Notice too that freedom was the desert, that place of wilderness and bareness. Freedom sometimes looks this way – either we feel bare and stripped completely vulnerable or wild and untamed by all the emotions that surface when we leave our Egypt.

I would like to impart a few blessing to you, my dear sisters and brothers..

1- May this Passover free you from all that binds you, or rather free all of us from that which keeps us in the prison of our own making.

2 – May we be willing to step into the unknowing place trusting that it is precisely on the journey when we follow the call, not knowing where it will lead us that we are freed from that which binds us.

3- May we know how to be with ourselves as we free ourselves whether we feel exposed and/or wild.

4- May we know how to hold others as they free themselves and are vulnerable and/or untamed.

May the world be at Peace!

Blessings

FYI – According to many commentaries only one fifth of the Jews actually left Egypt since the others (4/5) did not want to go to that which was uncomfortable for them.
